Identify the affected calculation
Use this channel for a defect on capitalgainsbystate.com: a federal threshold, state classification, source citation, output or browser interaction. Specify the page pathname and issue category. A useful example names the tax year, federal holding period, selected state mode, approved annual inputs and expected result. Explain whether the difference concerns ordinary federal tax, NIIT, state liability or the combined subtotal. A gross gain and an incremental annual tax amount are different figures.
Use a reproducible anonymous example
Replace real holdings and personal amounts with hypothetical numbers that preserve the failure. Link the public agency instruction or statute supporting the correction. Do not send Social Security numbers, tax returns, account passwords, brokerage statements, beneficiary details or documents identifying a household. We cannot verify your personal deduction, credit entitlement or legal residency through this form. Those issues belong with the responsible revenue authority or an independently chosen professional.
What the form records
Submitting a correction stores the affected pathname, selected category, message, receipt time and site name. A reply address is optional and is stored only if you provide it. The corrections record does not include your IP address or user-agent. Calculator entries are not automatically attached to the report. The text you choose to submit is separate from the browser-only worksheet, so inspect it for private information before sending.
Receipt and follow-up
The confirmation line under the button only tells you the message reached our corrections log. Nobody has checked your reading of the rule at that point, and no figure on the site has moved because of it. We compare source-supported claims with the current model and reproduce software issues before publishing a correction. An address allows a reply about the reported defect and is not subscribed to marketing by this form. There is no promised response deadline or professional engagement. A failed submission preserves your message so you can retry after a network or storage problem.
Prepare the relevant reference
Check the methodology and the state source index first. For example, federal NIIT MAGI cannot substitute for New York adjusted gross income, and a Massachusetts gain category cannot be duplicated in the other-income field. Specify which annual scenario changes and whether credits are usable nonrefundable amounts or payments. That level of detail makes a report actionable while keeping your actual financial records outside the website.
